Professor Dipayan Rudra from the School of Life Sciences and Technology, Ph.D., graduated from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the United States, majoring in Cell Biology, and then conducted postdoctoral research with Dr. Alexander Rudensky at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Before joining our school, Dr. Rudra continued to conduct Treg cell research at the Institute of Basic Science (IBS) in South Korea as a PI. Since October 2021, he has joined the School of Life Sciences, ShanghaiTech University full-time as a tenure track Associate professor.
Research interests of Dipayan Rudra's group:
Regulatory T (Treg) cells are a specific subtype of T- lymphocytes critical for suppressing autoimmunity and uncontrolled immune response against pathogens. Furthermore, in tumor microenvironment, Treg cells are capable of dampening anti-tumor immunity, making them an attractive therapeutic target. The transcription factor Foxp3 is required for the generation and function of Treg cells. Research in Dr. Rudra’s laboratory is focused on dissecting the cellular, molecular and metabolic features that are responsible for governing Treg function during systemic inflammation and in tumor microenvironment, with the long-term goal of employing this knowledge in exploring the therapeutic potential of utilizing and targeting Treg cells in clinical settings.
